CHILDREN ARE BEING SOLD FOR FOOD !

Here is a perfect example of why we must end hunger!!

Afghanistan: Girls sold for food

In Afghanistan, where more than half of all children under age 5 are chronically malnourished, some parents are forced to take extreme measures - selling their pre-teen daughters as wives for older, affluent men.

“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat” -Matthew 25:35 (NIV)

“We didn’t want to sell her,” says the mother of 11-year- old Fatima. “We wanted to wait until she was 20. But we were forced to. There was no other way.”

Fatima is now engaged to a man who gave her parents $6,000. “We have no money,” her mother continues. “These days, the high price of food is affecting us in a bad way. We are borrowing money just to buy food.” Continue reading click here…

Why Ribbons Are Just A Start

Author: User ImageLuanne  //  Category: action, hunger, purpose, volunteer

Malnutrition in this country, and worldwide, is astronomical. And, the sad part - or maybe I should say easiest way - is for those “who have” to help those “who don’t.”

Just to put things in perspective, here’s a quote from Wikipedia.org:

As of 2008, malnutrition continues to be a worldwide problem, particularly in lesser developed countries. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, “850 million people worldwide were undernourished in 1999 to 2005, the most recent years for which figures are available” and the number of malnourished people has recently been increasing. An orange awareness ribbon is used to raise awareness of malnutrition in the world. The FAO calculates undernourishment by comparing the amount of food available in a country at national level with how many people live in the country.

Feel free to right click and copy this ribbon for display on your website and/or blog.

Awareness is just the beginning…
